Keyboard waffles.

I’m so hungry right now.

Being introverted during the holidays.

With the holidays approaching, it seems appropriate to point you toward this article regarding your loved ones and their introversion. Excerpt:

Do you know someone who needs hours alone every day? Who loves quiet conversations about feelings or ideas, and can give a dynamite presentation to a big audience, but seems awkward in groups and maladroit at small talk? Who has to be dragged to parties and then needs the rest of the day to recuperate? Who growls or scowls or grunts or winces when accosted with pleasantries by people who are just trying to be nice?

If so, do you tell this person he is “too serious,” or ask if he is okay? Regard him as aloof, arrogant, rude? Redouble your efforts to draw him out?

If you answered yes to these questions, chances are that you have an introvert on your hands—and that you aren’t caring for him properly. Science has learned a good deal in recent years about the habits and requirements of introverts. It has even learned, by means of brain scans, that introverts process information differently from other people (I am not making this up). If you are behind the curve on this important matter, be reassured that you are not alone. Introverts may be common, but they are also among the most misunderstood and aggrieved groups in America, possibly the world…

We aren’t rude; we’re introverted. (Except for when we’re being rude.)

Spam the spammers.

This has nothing to do with the usual theme(s) of this blog, but is so many kinds of awesome that it must be shared.

How To Trick an Online Scammer Into Carving a Computer Out of Wood” [note: a Commodore 64!]

Dropping science.

I dropped this out of a two story window onto a paved parking lot yesterday, as part of a sanctioned science experiment. The egg survived and this photo was taken post-drop.

Borders Bookstores are the greatest!!!1!!1!

PWxyz blog reports this morning that ailing megabookstore chain Borders has the solution to their financial woes. Teddy bears!

According to Bloomberg, Borders has stuck a deal with Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc., and will sell that company’s build-your-own-stuffed-animal kids and other related products in a special section of Borders stores.   Borders CEO Michael Edwards told Bloomberg, “As more books are bought online or in digital format than bought at retail, it creates really the ultimate strategic challenge in terms of redefining the bookstore…We are totally rethinking it.”

YOU STUPID CRACKERS.

Unless, of course, this exclusive leaked photo is representative of what Borders is planning; in that case, buy Borders stock now, because the sky is the limit.

Recursive.

That was Daniel Schorr.

One of the best things about NPR – National Public Radio, as it used to be known – is behind us: Daniel Schorr passed away this morning at age 93. (It still evokes some astonishment when I read about somebody passing and, because of the way the internet works so quickly, it happened just a few short hours ago.) His voice and commentary set a standard.

Hear him in this piece, recorded after viewing the 2005 Good Night, and Good Luck – a unique perspective, as he was part of Murrow’s team.

Typewriter keyboard.

Here are some typewriters modified to work as standard USB keyboards. Probably best for a tablet, but it would work just fine with any computer.
